People often ask: ‘Which is the best affiliate marketing e-book?’ without saying what they want it for. The one that is best for you may not be the best one for me, or for another marketer. The problem is made worse because many of the top marketers sell other people’s products and give you the impression that this is the best thing since sliced bread whether you are an expert or a beginner.
They do this because the emails they send out to you are generally given them by the owner of the product they are promoting. They might add a preface, but it is essentially the same stuff. So the first thing to do when looking for a suitable affiliate marketing e-book is to ignore what the email says. Just go to the sales letter and assess that.
How to assess a sales letter
But you might ask: ‘How do you assess a sales letter?’ Well, what you need to be looking for is something basic. If you are already making $5,000 a month as an affiliate, and want something advanced you won’t be reading this, but will be looking for something different.
This is not so difficult as it sounds. If the sales letter talks about things you don’t really understand, then obviously it is not for you. Secondly, if it talks about ‘your Adwords ads’ or something like that, it is assuming you are already spending and making quite a bit of money on Adwords. Adwords is not for beginners, so it is not basic affiliate marketing.
OK, so what are the basics? Well, basic affiliate marketing will:
1.Tell you how it works
2.Point you at free resources you can use, like the Google Adwords Keyword Tool
3.Explain what products are easiest to sell
4.Include some tools to help you get started
Tools, not useless ‘free’ bonuses
These tools are not the ‘free’ bonuses some marketers add at the end of their sales letters to convince you their e-book is good value. Most bonuses are not worth much, if anything. They are usually out of date and very general in nature, and were written to boost the reputation of the writer. The more bonuses there are, the more you can be sure that the actual product being sold is of marginal value.
The tools you need
What sort of tools should you look for? First, you want some products to sell, but some of these should be from an independent source, not from the seller of the e-book. Secondly, you want help with setting up a system so you can get people to sign up for your list so that you can market products to them.
This is all basic affiliate marketing, but not many gurus or hot marketers bother to do this. They usually tell you how to do it in such a way that you end up thinking: ‘I can’t do that!’.
Well, you can, and the right affiliate marketing product will show you how, and it is this ’showing’ that makes a good basic affiliate marketing course.
