When it comes to finding the perfect diet, each person may have something different. The perfect diet is not going to be the same for every person any more than two people like the same foods. It’s essential to find what works for you and stay with it in order to maintain the best of health and fitness.
Low Carbohydrate Diet
For some people cutting back on carbohydrates may work and be preferred. The problem you may want to consider is that if you lower your carbohydrates too much, you will become overly tired from the lack of energy carbohydrates provide. That doesn’t mean you should consume carbohydrates in the same quantities you were, but you need to find the level that will allow you to lose weight while maintaining your energy. More importantly, you want to consume less simple carbohydrates and more complex carbohydrates to reduce the amount of sugar you consume. You can accomplish this quite easily by switching to whole grain carbohydrates such as whole wheat bread and pasta, brown rice, and whole wheat flour.
High Protein or High Carbohydrate Diet
The problem with the high protein diet is that in many cases the carbohydrates are very low. Although you may be gaining lean muscle mass from eating lean protein, you will lack the energy to do many of the things you normally do including that of aerobic exercise to boost the metabolism. The same holds true if you reduce protein but consume more carbohydrates only in reverse. You may have the energy, but you lack the muscle building properties of the proteins. The proper combination of both of these essential food groups is the key to consistent and permanent weight loss.
Fad Diets
When I say fad diets I refer to those that come and go or those people try because movie stars are using them. These types of diets take on many forms including low carbohydrates, low protein, high carbohydrates, high protein, elimination of entire food groups, eating certain foods at certain times, and much more. Although these programs may indeed work for you, the key issue is to try something because you think it is the best plan for you and not because someone famous endorses it. I have friends who have had tremendous success with LA Weight Loss, and I have friends who had no success with it whatsoever-the key element is doing what works best for you based upon your body type and metabolism.
Find What Works for You and Stay with It
Many diets fail because people start a program and have success with it but decide they want to “try something else” to see if they can achieve more success. In most cases you undo whatever success you had with the first weight loss plan and end up having to start all over again. You will achieve the greatest success if you stop looking around when you find the weight loss plan that works for you. To coin an expression that many people know well, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” In other words, if you find something that works well, don’t look for something you think may work better. The key element is staying on track, and you can’t do that if you continue to change your diet program in mid-stream.
