Internet Shopping - Pros And Cons

June 24th, 2008 · No Comments

I will start on a positive note with Pros!

Convenience

The first and most obvious pro is the convenience of shopping from your home and not having to get dressed, pack up the kids, warm up the car, fight the traffic, find parking and then wait in line at the store. Huge time saver! Not to mention that you may be able to hop online at your workplace for two or three minutes during a break and not cut into your precious time at home at all!

Money Saver

1. Another thing you may want to consider is that when we shop online we tend to search item specific which is a huge contrast and money saver in comparison to wandering through a store and being enticed by countless other items and sales pitches.

2. We can compare prices at numerous stores in minutes. This procedure would waste significant time and gas at your local stores.

Originality

Internet shopping offers a virtually limitless selection of merchants and vendors in comparison to what is offered in your local area regardless of your location. Having your choice of merchants lends itself to originality as well as penny pinching!

On the flip side with the cons!

Shipping Fees

Shipping Fees can be pricy and unexpected. First you complete your product search then its price comparison only to be stung with the sometimes unreasonable shipping fees.

If you put a few more minutes into your price comparison however, and take the product to the sites shopping cart, you can calculate the shipping fee and then cancel or confirm your transaction accordingly.

Shipping Time

Shipping time is usually within one week for most products from a majority of merchants, however, if you do not have more than a couple of days, internet shopping will not suffice.

Product Quality

If you are unfamiliar with the product you may be unpleasantly surprised at the quality compared to the picture. Or if you are ordering clothing you may need to return items for size, color etc. When you return items purchased on the internet you have the inconvenience of the trip to the post office and the return shipping charges (some merchants do waive this fee).

Conclusion

The internet is a very convenient time and money saving avenue where you can accomplish a large amount of your shopping. For products that you are unsure of size or quality, i.e. clothing, it would be better to try them on and see them in person before purchasing to avoid return shipping charges! Happy Shopping!
